menetekel

It's a dark foreboding. A forecast of what will come and what will have to be feared. The signs are out there, not always to be deciphered. An omen of the unknown. “MENETEKEL“ is an artistic approach to the old biblican story of Belshazzar's feast or the story of the writing on the wall (chapter 5 in the book of daniel) in which a dark, impending omen is written on the wall of Belshazzar's palace. In the german language, the term „Menetekel“ is synonomous for a foreboding of a impending evil. If someone receives a Menetekel, bad things are ahead of them. In my work I try to find images, that picture the enevitable and uncomfortable, the dark places one fears and the signs one shouldn't overlook. It is becoming map of signs, symbols, emotions and associations, condensed into color and monochrome photographs.
